For this course, you'll be using a software program called Remote Proctor Now (RPNow) for your exams. RPNow is a remote proctoring service that uses your computer's webcam and microphone to record your exam space to promote academic integrity. This service is free for ASU students.

Step 1: Getting Started

If you haven't used RPNow before, please download the software (available for Windows and Mac) by clicking here. Note: RPNow cannot be used with a Chromebook. You must use a standard desktop computer or laptop with a Windows or Mac operating system to use RPNow.

Other requirements include:

• A webcam
• A microphone
• Your ASU Sun Card or any government-issued identification. Important note: Please do not use a bank card or MidFirst ID with any financial information for RPNow verification.

Step 2: The Registration/Setup Phase

Open the RPNow software on your computer. You'll be led through a number of steps to get started, including verifying that your microphone and webcam will work, choosing your course and exam, taking a picture of your ID, using your webcam to record what your exam space looks like, taking a user photo, and closing any extra programs that are open on your computer.

Step 3: Taking the Exam

After the registration/setup process, the software will act as a browser, allowing you to log into your course and navigate to where the exam is located. All exams being proctored by RPNow require a password, and when you click on the exam you want to take, you'll be prompted to enter a password. Use the "Insert Exam Password" at the top of the screen to enter the password and begin the exam. Your screen and webcam feed will be recorded as you take the exam and your professor will receive a report about any suspicious activity or materials. When you're finished with the exam and submitted your answers, you'll close the RPNow software by clicking the "Close" button in the top right.

RPNow testing policies are determined by the instructor, typically communicated in the syllabus. If the instructor does not set any, then the following are standard:

The online exam environment should mimic an in-class exam environment. Adhering to the following will ensure that you do not violate the online exam rules:

• Behavior:
• Do not leave the exam environment at any time during the exam, unless specifically allowed in the exam instructions by your instructor
• Dress as if you were in a classroom setting
• Hats, hoods, headphones, earbuds, or earplugs are NOT allowed during the exam taking process
• Do not talk or communicate by any other means during the exam
• Environment
• The environment must be quiet and fully lit
• You must be seated at a clean desk or clean table
• The exam must be taken in the same room that is scanned during the room scan.
• The desk or table must be cleared of all materials not required for the exam unless specifically allowed in exam instructions
• Internet-capable devices such as a cell phone, e-reader, smartwatch, or internet-cable calculator must not be visible on the desk, table or testing area
• The camera must be focused on the test taker at all times
• No one other than the test-taker is permitted to enter the testing area during the exam
If your instructor wishes to allow any of the above behavior during an exam, this will be communicated in your exam instructions.
